My friend Natalie of NDS Photography told me recently that she had planned to get a tattoo. Now most of my friends and family know that I, myself, have been waffling over whether or not to get one. Firstly, I’m a wimp and am nervous of the pain. LOL! But also, I’ve been debating long and hard about what I actually want. That’s a story (and set of photos) for another day though.
So in an attempt to ease my fear/apprehension about tattoos, Nat said I could come along and see the experience for myself. I was SO glad she suggested I bring my camera along for a few reasons. Firstly, this tattoo holds special significance for Nat. After the very tragic passing of her cousin last year, she was getting this tattoo in memory of her. So these photos are going to serve as a wonderful memory for Nat. Secondly, documenting something like this is so unique for me. One of my personal goals this year has been to explore a more documentary style of photography and this fits with that goal perfectly. I love when things just fall together like this
After this experience I am feeling much more at ease with the idea of my own tattoo now. Thanks so much for letting me come along and asking me to document this for you Nat. I’m grateful to have been involved in such a fun, unique and emotional experience. Also a big thanks to New Moon Tattoo on Carling as well – more specifically Nat’s tattoo artist Jay Ferrin who let us photograph him while he worked. Some of Jay’s amazing work can be seen at www.threesevensart.com. You can book an appointment with him at New Moon Tattoo at 2979 Carling Avenue in Ottawa’s west end.
