If there’s one thing I can count on being an Ottawa Family Photographer, it’s the fact that each family I work with is unique. It’s this unique combination of personalities that makes it so much fun for me because you never really know which direction things will go!
Sometimes it’s the kids who lead and I just follow and document. Sometimes it’s the parents who seem to have a clear idea of what they want to get out of the session so it’s mostly parent-driven. But in some instances – my very favorite instances – things are balanced out really well. That was definitely the case with this lovely family. Michelle and Suzanne were so fun, easy-going and just as playful with each other as they were with the kids. The kids behaved exactly as a 5 and 7 year old would and neither had any issue whatsoever with picking up a snowball and unexpectedly launching it directly at one of their parents. These interactions made for an incredibly fun time and it also assured that the smiles in these photos were 100% genuine. So many laughs were had and truly, it makes my heart happy to be in the presence of so much love!
A big thank you Michelle, Suzanne, Simon and Annabelle for braving the cold and snow and for such a fun time last weekend! I sincerely hope you love the photos as much as I loved taking them!

I’m going to attempt to get lots of blogging done over the next few days/weeks, so I hope you are all ready to see what I’ve been up to lately!!
Debbie contacted me to book a family session that she hoped to have take place over the holiday season as they wanted to document the rare opportunity to have everyone under one roof! Their son Wes and daughter in law Alex were here in Ottawa visiting from Australia so we chose the Byward market as the setting for their shoot. Very fitting I thought since the market is so authentically Ottawa! We ended up with a chilly day, but kept warm walking around, taking in the sights, enjoying the sunshine and having a few good laughs. Such a fun, easy-going bunch. I had a fabulous time!
As always, it’s an honour when I’m chosen to document a family’s special time together! A big thank you to the Barklay family!

Sometimes I show up to a session and I just know my clients and I will click from the moment we meet. I like to think it’s something in those initial interactions that not only boosts my confidence and excitement as a photographer, but also allows for my clients and I to enter a space of comfort right from the get go. Being comfortable, laughing and having fun with each other during a session goes such a long way. So much so that I really do believe it can be seen in the photos. Continue reading
What I loved so much about this session was that it was lifestyle all the way. What do I mean by “lifestyle”? Well…I gave the family a general direction on what to do, but for the most part, most of the action and interaction captured during our time together was them being themselves. When I shoot lifestyle sessions, my goal is to capture perfect imperfection. I love, love, love when a family is willing to take this approach with their family photos. It tells a story about who they are in their lives today and their relationships with one another. There’s nothing more real or awesome than that. Continue reading
Typically around this time of year my ‘busy season’ tends to start winding down. Throughout most of the Summer and Fall months I’m usually kept fairly busy meeting new clients, updating the family photos for past clients and editing my butt off in order to get clients their photos in time for holiday gift giving! This year has been a wonderful surprise though. This year I’ve been remaining busier than ever for late fall. We’ve been fortunate to have such gorgeous weather and I’m so happy that my clients are taking advantage of it Continue reading
