Ottawa Headshots :: The Fabulous Laura Jane!

Laura is another photographer here in Ottawa (Laura Jane Photography), and last week I had the pleasure of photographing both her and her sister down at Pressed on Gladstone. This ended up being the PERFECT location for their session! Firstly, they have great coffee. ;) Secondly, the light was gorgeous! And third, Laura’s sister is a food blogger (more about that to come in my next post!). If you happen to be in the area, Pressed is a spot I highly recommend checking out. The owner is very nice, the atmosphere is great and although I didn’t try the food, rumor has it that everything on the menu is super delish! I plan to go back at some point in the not too distant future if anyone is up for a lunch date! :)

I had SO much fun with Laura and her sister Kelly. We chatted, we sipped coffee, we laughed and I got right up in their faces with my camera (which always induces laughter, no matter how awkward it is!). The whole experience with these two reminded me of why I love my job. After having been Twitter/Facebook friends with these ladies for several months, I had been looking SO forward to meeting them. And their warm, fun personalities are exactly what I expected. I meet some of the greatest people because of social media!

What I’m Loving Wednesdays ~ Week two

Gosh…looking back at the past couple of weeks I see that I’ve been bad at keeping up with What I’m Loving Wednesdays! BUT, I’m back this week to share with you more of what I’ve been loving lately. :)

1) Downton Abbey. I never in a million years would have thought I’d love a British period Drama so much in all my life, but there ya have it. I’m in LOVE with this show! The the acting is great, the costumes are fantastic, It’s funny and the characters are suberb! I dare you to watch…you’ll be hooked!
 

 

2) Nayla Natural Care. Love that they are an Ottawa based company with an amazing variety of natural products for you and for your home. Also? My friend Gwen owns it. And she’s pretty great. :) My personal favorite products they carry are the Crazy Rumors lip balms and the Hugo Naturals Bath Bombs. If you aren’t following them on Facebook yet, please do! Gwen is always sharing tons of informative stuff!

 

3) No words necessary. Just love it because its so true. :)

 

4) These bracelets from BraceletCool on Etsy! So far I’ve bough…oh…6 or 7. ;) I’m addicted! They are beautiful! They go with everything! And they are totally my style. Go show ‘em some love! Or if you are as geeky as me, go buy the one in my brand colours. This made me so excited that I bought two. LOL!

 

5) Roller Skates!!!!!! Confession time: A few months back I decided that I wanted to play/learn to play Roller Derby. I don’t know what possessed me to do this but my fascination with this game and roller skating in general has me totally motivated to learn to skate. So I bought a pair. Just a beginners pair with some basic outdoor wheels. But the hope is that I’ll be good at this some day. I’m just waiting for the snow to melt so I can get out there and skate. So come spring, if you happen to see a woman laid out flat on the pavement with wheels in the air, please help me. It means I’ve fallen and I can’t get up. ;)

Ottawa Professional Headshots :: The lovely Lori!

During my session with Lori last week I received one of the best compliments I think I’ve ever received from a client. Lori told me that one of the reasons she chose me for her professional headshots was because I am able to take my clients – real, average, every-day people – and make them look amazing. She loved that my work was real. I, of course, thanked her for the lovely compliment. But on my walk back to my car I was thinking about it a bit more and that’s when it hit me how important a compliment that really was. Being real with my work is what I really try to strive for. Its THE thing for me. I want the people that hire me for any type of session to go in with the confidence that I can make this happen for them. Up till now I think I just assumed that people must have thought this. But to have someone come right out and say it made me feel amazing. Lori, you made my day…maybe my entire week. :)

Ottawa Headshots :: Lisa of Lisa Goulet Design!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I photographed Lisa and Kelly together a couple of weeks back. What was PERFECT about this session was that these ladies are Interior Designers – so they KNOW how to decorate a home! So when it was decided that these would take place in Lisa’s home, I was excited. What a gorgeous space, so much beautiful light…and banana bread. Okay, that’s not house or photography related but Lisa can make a mean chocolate chip banana bread. I may just have to come over for photos more often! ;)

Lisa, thank you so much for having me over to your home for the headshots of Kelly and yourself! I thoroughly enjoyed our time together and had so much fun with the two of you! I I love how these business portraits communicate your warm, friendly personality and I hope that all of your future clients see this about you as easily as I did. :)

Ottawa Headshots :: Kelly of Jax Decor & Design!

Who would have thought…’tis the season for headshots in Ottawa! And I am loving it! :)

Kelly and Lisa (photos of Lisa to come!) are two friends and professional Interior Decorators here in Ottawa. I’ve known these ladies for quite a while now through social media, and also through the Extreme Makeover Kindness Edition projects that I’ve been involved with. After having been familiar with my work for some time, both of them contacted me in early February with the hopes of having me take some natural looking portraits of them. So we organized a day to get together and I spent some time photographing these two gorgeous gals. The best part was the fun we had. :) There’s nothing like just having a few good laughs and feeling relaxed in what could sometimes be considered an awkward situation for those not feeling 100% comfortable in front of the camera. I think it definitely helped to achieve some of the beautiful and natural looking smiles on Kelly’s face. ;)

I was truly grateful for the opportunity to photograph you Kelly! I love that you have already started using these images from our session on your social media sites! I think they really show off your fun, approachable personality. :)
