Byward Market Headshots Ottawa :: Alex

Another fantastic and fun professional headshot session! This time I met with Alex down in the Byward Market. He needed to update his professional images with something a little more modern and relaxed so we chose a location with lots of variety and personality. We walked the downtown streets near the Parliament, chuckled at tourists taking photos of the Ottawa’s famous spring tulips with their giant iPads in Major’s Hill Park and snapped some of our own awesome images for Alex to use for his online presence. We came away with some great results and upon being presented his proofs, he agrees! Alex is super happy and impressed with how well they represent him! :)

Thanks so much Alex for choosing Danielle Lynn Photography to update your headshots in the Byward Market! As always, I had so much fun and am thrilled that you love these images as much as I do!

Website update! :: Professional Business Headshots Ottawa

I have updated the Danielle Lynn Photography gallery with new headshots!  You can take a look at the images of my fabulous clients here!

Professional Business Headshots are something I’ve sort of become “known” for in recent months, I suppose you could say. They’ve become a HUGE part of my ever growing business and they are right up there with some of my very favorite client experiences. So far in 2013 I’m getting TONS of interest. The best part is that so much of it has been word of mouth. I’m so incredibly grateful for this. Headshots weren’t something I ever expected to love as much as I do. But the one on one interactions with people are proving to be so rewarding on both a personal and professional level. As a professional photographer, I firmly believe that having a connection with your subject is key in headshot portraits. It helps relax the subject, it inspires and builds confidence in the photographer and when you put those two elements together it creates an outstanding representation of that individual. Things just ‘jive’. From the client’s perspective, putting your best face forward is absolutely key in building a great connection with potential clients and employers alike. I love that my clients get the importance of this concept – often before we even meet. One of the greatest compliments I’ve received to date was that the client/photographer connection was so strongly visible in my work, it’s the reason the client decided to hire me. That’s one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive! It’s always so rewarding when people are able to see exactly what you are trying to convey.

I like to think my approach to professional business headshots is a fun, personal, not-so-corporate one. I guess because I’ve spent so much of my own life living as more or less a ‘free spirit’, this kind of approach just comes naturally to me. The truth is, I love to laugh. I take comfort in finding connections with people. I genuinely love to have a good time and it makes me feel good to know that my work is making others happy. These are the things that motivate me. They are what drive me and my business forward. I’m so, so grateful that this aspect of my business has taken off the way it has. I am excited to see what the rest of 2013 has in store and what beautiful people I’ll get to meet!

Professional Headshots Ottawa :: The Fab Mary Anne!

If you are a regular follower of my work, you may recognize the lovely Mary Anne as 1/6th of The TBBs – the fun loving, wine drinking group of super talented interior designers based here in Ottawa. (you can also see Mary Anne’s work on her business site, Otta Decorate!). I’ve had the pleasure of working with these ladies many times over the years both as a group and individually. I’m always so, so thankful for all of the times they’ve trusted me to capture the important people and events in their lives.

When Mary Anne asked me to do her business headshots, I was excited at the possibilities. She had told me that she lived downtown and that her condo had floor to ceiling windows.  And if working with the TBBs has taught me anything, I knew I could expect her home to be amazingly decorated. I was not disappointed. Mary Anne’s condo was in fact stunning, so full of gorgeous light and colour and although relatively small, it’s modern, unique decor provided lots of opportunity for creativity. We were also able to utilize some of the urban area near by which made for some nice variety. Mary Anne’s decor style is very urban, modern so this tied in perfectly. Oh, and a little brag…her kitchen in the image below is a recent AWARD WINNING DESIGN! :)

Thank you so much for this fantastic opportunity Mary Anne! I had so much fun at our headshot session in your home and neighborhood!

Ottawa Byward Market Headshots :: Chris

Headshots in the Byward Market are becoming such a popular thing for me lately! It seems that most of the Ottawa area professionals who are contacting me for these loves the variety that the Byward Market gives them. The great textured walls, beautiful architecture and nearby park areas give us so much variety, all within a short walking distance! My work as an Ottawa Headshot Photographer is never boring :)

Chris contacted me with the need for headshots and I loved his suggestion to bring two outfits and change half way through. It allowed for us, in a very short time together, to created some gorgeous images that will serve him on both a very professional level as well as a more casual one. I joked with him during our session that I could swear he was a professional model. He was so natural and confident in front of the camera and I think this translates very clearly in his headshots!

Thanks again Chris for trusting me to take these professional headshots for you. I hope you love the results as much as I do!

Ottawa Photographer :: The Sugar Post!

If there’s one thing I can say about my dear friend Natalie, it’s that when she decides she’s going to do something – she gives 110%. Whole hearted or not at all. So when she told me about her ideas for starting this little business on her property in Merrickville, it was never a question of whether she and Tom would be successful. I knew it was just a matter of when and how awesome it would be.

I’m so excited to share that after so much hard work, Tom and Natalie have finally opened the doors to their wonderful new business and allowed the public to visit them this past Saturday at their little Sneak Peek/Open House. The store is not officially open with regular hours for a few weeks yet, but be sure to stay updated via their Facebook page and store website for info on when you can go and visit!

My first thought upon visiting The Sugar Post in person was: WOW! I told Natalie that I wasn’t sure what to expect everything to look like, but whatever ideas I had in my head, this far exceeded my wildest dreams! The space was warm, welcoming and beautiful. And in true Natalie style, not one detail was missed. Each square inch of the store was perfectly decorated and filled to the brim with some of the most beautiful local art, jewelry, soaps, and treats that I have ever seen. A total feast for the senses! I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I know that anyone who visits will too!

Since I wanted to share some photos of the space, I thought it would be fitting to use the opportunity to have Natalie tell us a bit about The Sugar Post…

The Sugar Post

What is The Sugar Post?

As we have grown our vision for our company has also evolved and trying to sum up The Sugar Post in a few words is proving a little difficult :) . In a few words, we are a vintage inspired full service rental company and shoppe selling locally made products & unique fun finds. We are so proud to be the first store of it’s kind in the Ottawa area.
A longer explanation is that I guess you could say we are a vintage inspired throw back to the days where items were made by hand with care & love and customer service meant more than a thank you – it meant caring and getting to know the people who are taking the time to support your small business. This is the foundation of our business & what we feel is most important.
Our finds include pieces for your home, life & style and here our customers will find unique & fun pieces as well as handmade items from a variety of insanely talented local artisans.
Oh and we can’t forget our rentals! We have an ever growing inventory of antiques, vintage inspired & modern pieces for rent in our rentals section for everything from weddings, parties, school functions to pretty much any occasion that you would like to add some flair to! We are always borrowing pieces from our inventory to add a special decor element for our family get togethers and are always up for helping others come up with something different that matches their style.

How do you choose the vendors you feature in your shoppe?

Sourcing items is so much fun & simply comes down to this: Do we love it? Do we wish we could have it in our home or wear it or would like to use it to style a photo shoot, event or special occasion? If we do, the we try and get it for our shop or rentals.

Why is supporting local artisans so important to you as a business?

We miss the days where streets were lined with mom & pop shops and it makes us sad to see them all disappearing and being replaced by corporations where we are just a number. In Merrickville, chains stores are not allowed and you will only find local shops owned by local people who live and work and create in their communities. When you support local companies, artisans, shops, etc it grows communities. I’ve been a local business owner & artist in one fashion or another for many years and if we can help another local artisan succeed then that makes us happy. Their success is our success and vice versa and that is an amazing thing to be a part of.

What’s the best part about owning such a unique Ottawa area company?

We have two favourite parts. Artists are an amazing, caring, collaborative and extremely supportive group of people and being able to meet and work with them on a daily basis is fantastic. We also love that our children are watching us follow our heart and our dreams. We tell them every day that they can do anything and to always follow their heart. Watching us do just that and seeing the pride in their faces when they walk into the shop is one of the best feelings ever. Dream big and as my Grandma always told me ~ “There is no such thing as can’t”.

Chocolate or vanilla ice cream? With or without sprinkles? ;)

I say vanilla with sprinkles and can I please have some whip cream and a cherry too? Tom would say chocolate.

Where can the public find more info about you?

Online: the best place to keep up with us is on our facebook page but as we like to keep the shop new & fresh, many of our items will only be available in limited quantities in our store front and won’t appear in our online store.
